Photographer, Lisbon
I left Lisbon on a Tuesday with a full tank, two cameras and a vague plan to follow the cork forests east until the light ran out. It ran out somewhere past Évora.
Waiting as the work
The Alentejo does not offer much to a photographer in a hurry. The landscape is flat, the villages are quiet by two in the afternoon, and the sky does most of the talking. You learn to sit in the car and wait for a cloud.
By the end of the trip I had exposed forty rolls and kept eleven pictures. That ratio feels about right.
